Thaipusam (1/3) || Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia || 02/14 || “With her hands clinging to the pot of milk she’s passing me by. For a second I try to catch her eyes but her view is focused in the distance. Deep in trance she doesn’t seem to feel the skewer that is piercing her mouth.” ➔ It’s Thaipusam weekend – one of the most sacred celebrations for Hindu devotees. Two years ago I was part of the procession up to Malaysia’s famous Batu Caves. Thaipusam is celebrated in honour of Lord Subrahmanya (also known as Lord Murugan) who represents virtue, youth and power to Hindus and is the destroyer of evil. It’s a unique experience to form part of this crazy spectacle as a traveler.
